7 FEBRUARY 1984

JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, HOUSTON, TEXAS

41-B SCENE OF CHALLENGER - - A fixed camera on Astronaut Bruce McCandless helmet recorded this rare scene of the Space Shuttle Challenger some 50-60-meters away during a history-making extravehicular activity (EVA) Geb. 7. 1984. The 35mm frame is reminiscence of photography recorded of the reusable vehicle in June from the then free-flying SPAS-01 package. The Shuttle pallet satellite is configured mid cargo bay here as SPAS-OIA. Astronaut Robert L. Stewart, standing beneath the remorse manipulator system (RNS) arm, later denned the same manned maneuvering unit [...] which afforded McCasndless the freedom of movement to record this image. Also visible in the cargo bay are the support stations for the two [...] back-packs, the sunshields for the [...] B and Westar VI satellites, Ku-band antenna and a number of getaway special (GAS) canisters.
